Overview
Located in the northern part of Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi Beach – also called Corpus Christi North Beach and North Beach– is a one-and-a-half miles long beach with light brown sand and rocky jetties.
Amenities
Although Corpus Christi Beach does not offer lifeguards, the beach and the area near it offer many other amenities including a concrete walkway named the Corpus Christi Beachwalk, restrooms, a playground, volleyball courts, showers, a nearby recreational park, changing rooms, and picnic areas.
Dogs on leash are allowed at the beach.
Activities
Corpus Christi Beach offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, fishing, swimming, picnicking, boating, parasailing, jet-skiing, water-skiing, wakeboarding, volleyball, paddleboarding, surf-skiing, kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife watching. If you like fishing, there are two jetties at the northern and southern ends of North Beach. These jetties are amazing fishing sites.
The beach is ideal for less-experienced swimmers because the water here usually has gentle waves and is mostly shallow, but if you are planning to swim, kayak, canoe, or paddleboard here we recommend being careful because the water here is known to have unpredictable rip currents. In addition, the water here is also known to have jellyfish.
Disability Access
North Beach has beach wheelchairs for visitors with disabilities. If you want to use a beach wheelchair, you can contact Corpus Christi’s Parks & Recreation Department by phone at (361) 826-3469.
Parking
There are several parking lots available at North Beach, some of which are free and some of which are paid. Visitors should plan ahead to find a suitable parking lot.
Fun Fact
Corpus Christi Beach and the area around it were earlier used as a fishing site by local Native American tribes. In addition, there is a walkway near this beach – named North Beach History Plaza – that has signs offering interesting information on local history.
Attractions
There are many attractions near Corpus Christi Beach. The Texas State Aquariumis one of the largest aquariums in the United States and it exhibits wildlife from the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea – this aquarium is home to many aquatic and non-aquatic animals including birds, sharks, otters, alligators, and dolphins. This aquarium also has a 4D theater and a splash park. Art Museum of South Texas is a museum that offers more than 1,800 pieces of artworks including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, glassworks, and photographs – most of the museum’s artworks are from North and South America, with an emphasis on displaying local Texan art. USS Lexington is a World War Two-era aircraft carrier ship that now serves as a museum. This museum offers a unique insight into the history of naval aviation and World War Two-era naval warfare and it also has escape room puzzles, a 3D theater, and a flight simulator.
Mirador de la Flor – also called the Overlook of the Flower and the Selena Monument – is a popular monument that is dedicated to the Tejano singerSelena Quintanilla-Perez. This monument has a bronze statue of Selena and there is a walkway near this monument named Paseo de la Flor that has beautiful homemade tiles. If you are looking for another attraction near North Beach, Cole Parkis a recreational park that has many amenities including an amphitheater, grassy recreational areas, a pier, a skatepark, barbecue areas, picnic areas, and a playground. This park also has a beach named Cole Park Beach and this park also hosts an annual concert series.
Restaurants
If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Corpus Christi Beach. Blackbeard’s on the Beach offers many amazing dishes including pastas, seafood, steaks, Mexican dishes, burgers, sandwiches, and poultry dishes - this restaurant also offers live music performances. Republic of Texas Bar & Grill is an upscale restaurant that offers many delicious gourmet dishes including steaks, pork chops, seafood, lamb, soups, and salads. Water Street Oyster Bar is known for serving amazing seafood and it also serves pasta, sushi, burgers, salads, and Southern-style dishes. Hester’s Cafe & Coffee Bar offers many delicious dishes for lunch and breakfast including pastas, sandwiches, soups, eggs, and waffles. If you are looking for another good and affordable nearby restaurant, Executive Surf Club has a casual and fun atmosphere and it serves many excellent dishes including wraps, burgers, sandwiches, and Mexican dishes – this restaurant also offers live music performances.
