Dahlia Avenue Park(Dunlawton South Beach)

Located along the Volusia County shoreline, Dahlia Avenue Park is a county-owned recreational park which has an unnamed white-sand beach. This beach is also known as Dahlia Avenue Park Beach. Coastal vegetation is present near this beach. 

The beach in Dahlia Avenue Park does not have lifeguards. However, it has a few other amenities including picnic areas and restrooms. 

Dahlia Avenue Park offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, wildlife watching, fishing, swimming, surfing, beach-driving, kayaking, canoeing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, bodyboarding, paddleboarding, jet-skiing, surf-skiing, water-skiing, parasailing, and boating. If you are planning to enter the water near Dahlia Avenue Park, we recommend being careful as the water here is known to have unpredictable rip currents. Depending on the time of the year, you can see many kinds of animals in the water near the beach including dolphins and sea turtles. Sea turtles also seasonally use the beach in Dahlia Avenue Park as a nesting spot (generally between May 1 and October 31). If you are planning to fish in the water near Dahlia Avenue Park, please make sure that you follow the local fishing regulations.  Driving your vehicle on the beach in Dahlia Avenue Park is allowed. However, if you are planning to drive on the beach in Dahlia Avenue Park, please make sure that you adhere to the 10 miles-per-hour speed limit. In addition, we also recommend visiting Volusia County’s official website for more information regarding the local beach-driving regulations. The beach in Dahlia Avenue Park also offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the Atlantic Ocean and the nearby Sunglow Pier.

Getting to Dahlia Avenue Park is easy - the park is present between 3621 South Atlantic Avenue and 3629 South Atlantic Avenue.  It is important to note that this park is currently undergoing renovations and is scheduled to open in 2022.  If you are planning to drive your vehicle directly on the beach in Dahlia Avenue Park, please note that you need to first access another separate beach area at the end of Dunlawton Avenue (which has a vehicular beach access ramp) - once you get your vehicle on this beach area, you can drive south along the shoreline to the beach in Dahlia Avenue Park.

There are many attractions near Dahlia Avenue Park.  Daytona Beach Golf Course is a 36-hole golf facility which offers a fun and challenging session of golf. The Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens has remains of a plantation and sugar mill which was destroyed in the 19th century during the Second Seminole War. These remains are a part of the United States’ National Register of Historic Places. The gardens also have concrete dinosaurs dating back to the mid 20th century, when this area was a part of an amusement park named Bongoland. You can now see many kinds of plants in this garden including azaleas, ivies, and magnolias. The gardens also have an Asian garden, a master gardener demonstration area, a human sundial, a children’s garden, a tropical plants collection, and an herb garden in the shape of the state of Florida. If you are looking for another attraction near Dahlia Avenue Park, Park of Honor is a recreational park dedicated to people with physical and mental disabilities and their caregivers. The park has a butterfly garden, a fragrance garden, an herb garden, and a colorful garden.  The park also has a pond and a bubbling fountain. It also has many amenities including picnic areas, restrooms, walking/biking paths, and benches.
