Playa De Somo

Located in the small town of Ribamontan al Mar, Playa de Somo is a two-mile-long, wide, beige-colored sand, and crescent-shaped beach that is situated at the mouth of a river named Rio de Castanedo.  Also known as Playa de Somo Beach, Playa de Somo features great views of the lighthouse on Mauro Island that was built in 1860.  

Playa de Somo welcomes dogs off leash and offers many amenities including lifeguards, showers, water sport equipment rentals, handicap accessible features, and a surf school. 

There are many fun activities at Playa de Somo including swimming, surfing, sunbathing, and beach walking. 

Getting to Playa de Somo is very easy – the beach’s paid parking lot named Parking Playa de Somo is located at C. las Quebrantas, 39140 Somo and is within walking distance to the beach. 

If you are looking for attractions near Playa de Somo, you can drive 35 minutes to Parque Cabo Mayor that is located at 39012 Santander, Cantabria and offers amazing views of the Bay of Santander, cliffs with hiking trails, and a lighthouse with an art gallery.  Palacio de la Magdalena is a palace that was built in 1911 as a seasonal residence for the royal family of Spain and has been the setting for the Spanish television series Gran Hotel.  Mirador De Los Tranquilos is located at Bo. el Bosque, 92-98, 39160, Cantabria and features wooden benches that offer amazing views of the Bay of Biscay.  Another great attraction near Playa de Somo is Parque de Matalenas that is located at Av. del Faro, 12, 39012 Santander, Cantabria, has a playground, and is a great spot for picnicking and clicking Instagram-worthy pictures.

If you get hungry, there are many restaurants within a two-minute drive of Playa de Somo.  The Asian restaurant Kintsugi Noodle Bar has a nice menu that includes spring rolls, pumpkin curry, coconut rice, basil chicken, salmon rolls, and crab meat noodles.  Surf Garden serves sandwiches, tapas, tortillas, coffee, and beer.  Enuno features risotto, salmon, pad Thai, sushi, desserts, cocktails, and wine.  Another good restaurant near Playa de Somo is Estanbul Kebab - Comida Turcas that is located at En, C. el Puntal, 39140 Somo and offers kebabs, salads, grilled salmon, and gyro meat along with special items for vegans.
